TeenLine Help Is a Phone Call Away

Illustration of hand holding telephoneParents of preteens and teens: Are you sometimes a little embarrassed and unsure talking to your teen about sexuality, relationships, drugs and emotional concerns? TeenLine might be your answer! Teens want input from their parents, but many parents are uncomfortable discussing these topics. Studies have shown that when a parent and teen can talk about these important issues, the teen will make more positive choices.

TeenLine is sponsored by the Hawaii Youth Services Network and the Hawaii State Student Council and is managed by the Teen Intervention Program at Kapi`olani Medical Center. TeenLine is a 24-hour automated information and referral service with more than 125 taped messages on a variety of subjects, including sexuality, physical health, emotional concerns, drugs, tobacco, and where you and your teen can go for help. Taped messages can be heard by dialing 521-TEEN (8336) on Oahu and toll-free from the neighbor islands at 877-521-TEEN.

Peer Listeners, who are trained teen volunteers, are available weekdays 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. to answer questions by phone or e-mail (teenline@kapiolani.org).
